What is Remix 3D?
Remix 3D was a content platform that enabled mixed reality and 3D experiences for Windows 10 users, allowing them to experience, create, and share amazing ideas in a new dimension.
Features
Remix 3D was a website and service that allowed users to browse, publish, share, and import 3D models from any modern browser. The website featured community pages for category-specific content, object details pages for interacting with 3D models, and profile pages for users to share their creations. As a service, Remix 3D was embedded in Microsoft creation applications such as Paint 3D, Mixed Reality Viewer, and PowerPoint, providing users with a wide range of high-quality 3D models to help them share their ideas.
My Responsibilities included:
Developing the UI, responsive UX and interactive components for Remix3D.com
Creating many lo-fi to hi-fi detailed 3D and 2D animations to showcase interactions
Providing detailed design specifications to developers and technical artists
Completely overhauling motion and interactions to address existing performance concerns of implementations before my time.
Designing key integrations of UX and first run experiences into Office products.
Outcomes
Successfully defined the look and feel of user interactions on Remix3D
Launched free to over 400 million Windows 10 users with the Windows 10 Creators Update.
Project: Mixed Reality Capture - 3D Scanning
Role: Senior Product & Motion Designer
Microsoft's 3D Scanning Technology
In 2017, Microsoft showcased a impressive 3D scanning technology on stage, demonstrating the ability to capture detailed 3D models of real-world objects. One of the examples they used to demonstrate this technology was a sandcastle, which was scanned in real-time, highlighting the potential of this technology for mixed reality capture. Unknown to the public, we were hard at work developing this experience. Unknown publicly, we were hard at work to bring the app to life, to be ready for the masses.
My responsibilities included:
Leading UI design and UX motion
Creating engaging first run experience, tooltips framework, designs & animations
Shaping the visual identity of the scanning feature
Refining scanned object flow & visual appeal for an engaging experience
